How to reset password for a Microsoft Account on a Windows 8 Device?

Resetting a password in very simple with Windows 8, if the User Account is a Verified Microsoft Account.

In order for us to help the Customer reset the password, we need to first verify, if it’s a Microsoft or a Local Account.

To identify, on the Windows 8 Login screen, an email should be mentioned along with the User-Name, if the email is not there, then it's just a Local account.

After you have verified that it's an Microsoft Account and the Customer is not able to login & getting this message (screenshot).

To reset the password, we need to login to the above mentioned Microsoft Website,

URLs: http://account.live.com/password/reset  OR  https://account.live.com/resetpassword.aspx

If you have a different Account on the same system which can be accessed & or if another system/mobile/tablet with access to Internet, open any of the 2 URLs and will get the different options (screenshot).

Since, it’s a sign-in issue, then select First Option – I forgot my password and then Click on Reset your password

Now, you will be required to enter his email address which is connected with Microsoft Account and along with it, you need to Enter the Captcha (screenshot)

Now, you will receive an email from Microsoft with a link to reset the Microsoft Account and via the link, you will need to enter the password you want for your Windows 8 device & retype the password to confirm and after this, you will get a Confirmation from Microsoft.

Now you can sign-in to the system.
